Life as a musician #4

Posted on March 2, 2012

For all you prospective teachers and professional musicians:

I learned a lesson even in my old age this week.  It hurts when you yell at your ensemble members.  I try not to as a leader be too "pompus", but I know there have been times I failed at that attempt.  Once at church and once at a local rehearsal, I was the brunt of some unkind words.  Boy did that hurt.  Bascially I was doing my job and pow it happened.

I encourge you to measure your words carefully and treat others as you would want to be treated.  This experience has made me evaluate my approach as I teach and play with others.  As leaders we can always improve our teaching and rehearsal methods.  Good luck as you try to "fight the war".
